Meeting the New Chief

Posted on Tue Dec 4th, 2018 @ 12:51am by Lieutenant JG Corrinne Haught & Lieutenant J'Loni Mo'Bri

Mission: Side Posts
Location: Main Engineering

ON:

"What is the problem here Crewman? I thought you would have already had the EPS relays aligned by now. What's taking so long?" said Lt. Corrinne Haught the Assistant Chief Engineer. She had been placed in the Assistant position when their last Engineer transferred off before the ship departed for "The Dead Zone".

"I'm sorry ma'am, I thought they were aligned. My mistake. I'll make the proper corrections." said the Bolian Engineer.

"I want to get things to ship shape before our new chief arrives and I don't want them to think we are incompetent engineers. Do I make myself clear.?!" she said to not only the engineer standing before her but to the entire department.

Stepping out of the turbolift, J'Loni walked down the corridor looking at the passing engineers and personnel as they walked, nodding in greeting, she entered engineering and looked around. "Damn this is some engine room. Sheesh, I could get lost in here just looking in and around the consoles", she said. Continuing to walk she made for her office and just before she entered it she hollered, "Assistant Chief Haught report to my office ASAP". Knowing that her new department would have to get used to her hollering and barking, what better time than to start now with the new ACEO. Smiling to herself, she waited for the officer to appear.

Corrinne heard the new chief call for her. Looking back at the crewman. "You better be finished when I get back from meeting with the new chief."
Turning around Corrinne headed towards the chief's office.

Reaching the Chief's office Corrinne rattled her knuckles on the side of the opening. "You wanted to see me chief?" she asked standing in the open doorway.

Looking up at the woman standing there, "Yes I wanted to see you. Please come in and have a seat. Can I get you something to drink?", J'Loni asked, getting a raktajino for herself. "By the way what was that all about?", she added.

"Nothing for me ma'am." said Corrinne. "Chief Petty Officer Arlilar had made an incorrect alignment to the EPS systems. He's making the proper alignments now."

"Really now...is that any reason to bark at him? For your future reference, I am the only one who is going to bark at my engineers. With that being said, how have the repairs come and is this ship ready to fly?", she said, looking dead serious at the poor engineer. "I can understand if things are not quite ready but if they are far from being ready then it falls in your lap to try to explain to me why", she added.

" Sorry ma'am. It will never happen again"

"See to it that it doesn't happen again. IF there is any chewing out to be done, I will be the one chewing out people, not you. Now back to business, is the EPS now functioning properly? I do hope so. I am assuming that the engines are in working order and the IDF and SID are also properly aligned and tuned correctly? I would hate for the IDF suddenly cut out and everyone goes weightless now?", she added looking at the young Lieutenant. "I won't bite your head off this time but please make damned sure you get your job done in the future and you and I will get along just fine. Now, that being said, tell me a bit about yourself? Your goals and what your interests are?", she added.

"I understand ma'am." said Corrinne.

Relaxing a little bit more Corrinne spoke. "Well, I'm a Starfleet brat. Parents in Starfleet and moved around a lot. When I decided to join myself I knew what I wanted to do. I have always wanted to be an engineer. I just never expected to serve under my own mother before."

"Oh...your mother was an engineering chief? That can be rough on a person. I know that if I had to serve under my mother or father it would make me a bit ticked off. It is one thing to be a child until you move out of the nest but to have them as your superiors is a bit much", she said.

"Mom wasn't into engineering but mostly medical. My father was more the engineering type. As for serving under a parent. That's why I'm down here and she's on the bridge." said Corrinne.

"Ah...I see the family resemblance. Wow, that is something. I understand however, as I also had a parent as a commanding officer. My father was my commanding officer and it was hard on me as well. He thought I should have done it better than anyone else. Made me feel out of place and small. Couldn't do my job as well as I knew I could. Was always messing up and he kept coming down on me hard", she said, frowning.

"I can understand. Mom and I almost came to blows at one time until I told her that I was her daughter first and her officer second. After that she understood where she stood and where I stood." Corrinne said as she sat down in one of the chairs. "Even thought she's still my superior and I could have been reprimanded I still love her and she still loves me. Sometimes we just have to remind them that we are family first."

"Yes that is very true. I had to tell my father that on more than one occasion", J'Loni said. She was beginning to understand her engineer and her personality. Corrinne was a nice kid and she had a good heart but, don't get her mad. If J'Loni understood Corrinne correctly, she had a temper much like her own.

"Lt. Haught, please try to not yell and scare the daylights out of the department if they make a mistake. We are all humans and we will and do make mistakes. We are not perfect, althought we all would like to be", J'Loni said smiling.

"Yes ma'am." said Corrinne. She wanted to go and see how the EPS alignment was going. "Is there anything else you need me to pass along to the departmet for you"

Looking at Lt. Haught, "Unless you can't fix it......then holler at me. I like to get my hands dirty too!", J'Loni replied. "As for the department is concerned, just Good Job people", she added. "You are dissmissed Ms Haught. "
