Political Health

Posted on Sat Apr 27th, 2019 @ 1:09am by Lieutenant JG Addison MacKenzie & Ensign Jeff Elazar

Mission: Side Posts
Location: Sickbay

There was already a plethora of things that Jeff had to do upon his arrival to the ship that it almost seemed like it was overwhelming. Prior to leaving Earth, was able to write papers and research the latest political trends. Now he had to make large to-do lists and accomplish them all within a reasonable amount of time to keep up with the expectations placed upon him by Starfleet.

He was walking along and his PaDD signalled for his attention. He grabbed for it and began reading through only to find that he was scheduled for an appointment with the ship's medical staff for a physical examination, as was normal and proper procedure for any new crewmen on the ship. Jeff just so happened to be on the same deck as Sickbay and proceeded there so as to not be late. He walked through the double doors and looked around for any medical officers who could help him. "Excuse me, is there anyone here who can see me?" asked the Ensign.

Addison turned in his direction but didn't look up from her PADD. "Certainly, what can I do for you?"

Jeff stepped forward and put on his best smiley face for the officer in front of him. "Hello there, I was wondering if anyone was available to perform my first time physical examination before I commence duty onboard the Lantau?" Jeff looked around and observed the more prominent features of the room, including biobeds, tricorders, hyposprays and the like.

Addison smiled and set down her PADD on a nearby cart. Gesturing to a nearby biobed, she said, "Hop right up here. Let me grab a tricorder."

Returning to the cart, she picked up a tricorder and PADD, on which she loaded the officer's latest medical file. She consulted it, and then returned to him. Opening her tricorder, she asked, "Alright, Ensign. Any unusual symptoms? Anything out of the ordinary?"

Jeff approached the designated biobed and hopped up onto it as directed and turned his attention to the woman once more. "There's nothing out of the ordinary at all. I should warn you, though, that I do tend to consume more synthehol and real alcohol than your average Starfleet officer. I do hope that won't be a problem?"

She raised her eyes to look at him without raising her head. "Only if it interferes with your duties or personal relationships..."

Addison consulted her tricorder as she passed it over his body. "I'm not seeing anything out of the ordinary here." She closed the tricorder and offered a reassuring smile. "Have you scheduled an appointment with Counselor Sabine yet?"

"It hasn't so far, Doctor. As for the Counseling session, I suppose I'll have to make an appointment there too?" Jeff grew a grin on his face knowing that his pasttime could proceed uninterrupted. He was also glad to know that it seemed as though he didn't have any medical problems coming up so far. Perhaps the checkup would be more easier than he originally thought it would be?

Addison smiled and nodded. "The Lieutenant is quite nice, and very helpful. We like to have total medical and psychological workups for any new crew members. Having a complete profile helps us to notice any anomalies in the future."

"A thorough and thoughtful policy," concluded the Ensign. "Clearly there has been procedural and process developed here, and I have to admit, I like that a lot." Jeff noted down in his PaDD to schedule the requisite appointment at some point later on. "Well Doctor, is there anything I can help you with in my role on the ship?"

She shook her head. "I don't think so. Don't take this the wrong way, but I hope we don't see too much of each other! Stay out of harm's way," she said with a reassuring smile.

Jeff looked at the Doctor with a look of mischief and grinned. "Oh really? I should hope I see you more often than not. It's a good thing to become acquainted with those that you'll be serving alongside with. We'll frequently meet up at senior staff briefings, I'm sure. And...we could hang out sometime if you'd like?" Since arriving on the ship, Jeff had been meaning to find someone that he could spend more time than usual with. Just a good friend, nothing more or less than that.

Addison smiled and nodded. "Looking forward."
