Her Arrival and Meeting the Captain

Posted on Tue Aug 28th, 2018 @ 9:52pm by Captain Evelynn Haught & Lieutenant Commander J'Loni Mo'Bri

Mission: Vivere aut non vivere ...
Location: Deck 3 Senior Officers Quarters/Captains Ready Room

ON:

The transport that was carrying her was a bit cramped but dealable. Jenna was playing with Bear while Sheba and Lone Wolf slept near Williams feet. J'Joni was engrossed in the study of the Century class specs since Starfleet found it necessary to send her to a ship that needed her talents.

About two hours later, the transport had transported her and her family to the USS Lantau, directly to her new quarters. Jenna went squealing with joy over he fact she had her own room. "William, I have to report to the captain first. Could you watch Jenna and like kinda fix up the place?", she said as she kissed him quickly.

"Woman...slow the bloody blazes down and take a breath...the ship won't fall apart if you don't go right this minute", he said chuckling.

"Yes I do...the faster I check in the quicker I can find out what is wrong with her", she said snorting as she left for the bridge and the captain's ready room doors.

Hitting the door chime, she waited patiently with PADD in hand.

"Enter." came the call from the other side of the doors.

Entering, she snapped a salute and presented the PADD that held her orders to the captain. " Sir this is a beautiful lady and I hope to serve her well", she said.

Evelynn smiled at the enthusiasm of the woman standing in front of her. "I am sure you will serve this ship adequately." Evelynn stood up and took the padd from the young Lieutenant and offered her hand. "Let me be the first to officially welcome you to the USS Lantau."

Taking the outstretched hand, she shook it, "A pleasure to be here. I hope I am not intruding on anything important ma'am?", she said taking a seat.

" Not at all." said Evelynn. "Can I get you a drink? I find that offering something to one of me officers when we officially meet for the first time tends to help ease the nervousness they often feel when meeting their CO."

"Racktajino would be good sir and thany you. Nervous is not my thing and well to be hones it is a privilage to meet you. The captain of the Lantau, as I have heard is a wonderful person and a very understanding one as well", she said, smilling. J'Loni was more than tickled to meet her. She had so many questions about this new ship that her frame of mind was quite intensified for the moment. "Sir I was wondering if maybe we could speak on the speed of the ship and its engines. I haven't had a chance to look at all the specs and the department yet and I was really quite taken by her beauty, she said.

Ordering the drinks Evelynn smiled and at hearing the complements. Turning around with the drinks she set them down on the desk. "So I have a reputation huh?" she said as she sat down in her own chair.

"Well yes you do and it is an excellent one. It seems that many people have heard about your career in Starfleet and they say that you are an understanding person and a good natured individual. I can only hope that I will be in your good graces for the time I am here", she said, taking the drink and sipping it.

"What concerns do you have about the speed on the ship?" asked Evelynn.

Well as you know, I am trying to get the speeds up to a sustainable clip at warp 9.999 and I have been tinkering with the theories in the engineering labs. I am not finished, well, not by a long shot, but the theories I have are promising. I have not had the time yet to familiarize myself with her new engine specs as yet and I was wondering if you might help me in that area", she said.

"What area do you need my assistance in? I mean as Chief Engineer you should have access to the engine specs already." Evelynn was confused somewhat and wanted to clearify everything.

"Well Captain, I have looked at the specs and I saw that the warp drive was the newer type of class 9 warp drive only can keep the ship at 9.999 for 14 hours. I would have thought it would have extended that. Then the fact that there are holo emitters on every deck would mean that the emitters would be drawing more power from the EPS systems as well. The bio neural circuitry is somewhat new as well and would tend to be more susceptable to virus and other bacteria should it get introduced. It is not just the engines sir, it is the ship as a whole. She is a new class just getting underway and I don't want to...be the one to mess it up", she said, hiding her face somewhat, as it turned red.

"I understand what you are saying. You want to boost the output of power but not cause any reparcussions along the way." the captain said as she sat back in her chair. Clasped her hands together she steepled her index fingers and pressed them to her lips. "I will tell you what. Run a few simulations on the holodeck and make sure that you can perform these upgrades that you are wanting to do and the next time we are back at Iota Station I will authorize it."

"Basically yes captain. That is the general idea. Maybe if I knew where we were going and what type of nebulas and special anomalies we might be passing through or around, I can get engineering ready to expect the unexpected and I can sometimes prevent things from happening", she said. "See in my years of experience, I have found that learning about an area of space that we are going through, helps me to avoid and prepare my people and departments to handle the usual emergencies that go with those little nuisances and thus keeping things running smoothly. The bio-neural gel packs are really the most important piece of engineering equipment on this ship and...well I would hate to see them get infected with a virus or bacteria infection. I am not saying that they will, but should it happen, we definitely need a back up system. I was thinking that maybe we could house a backup set of gel packs apart from the ones we use currently and should something like this happen, we could swap them out. It is a valid idea captain and a prudent one to say the least", she finished.

Evelynn picked up a small padd and input some data. "Here is some of the potential areas that we might encounter." said the captain handing over the small padd. "Now just remember before any modifications are made I have to see actual data that they will work before I will approve it."

Taking the PADD, she looked at it and shook her head. "Acknowledged Captain...I will get right on it right away", she said and turned and left.
