Visiting Sickbay and its Patients

Posted on Tue Mar 12th, 2019 @ 2:23am by Lieutenant JG Addison MacKenzie & Captain Evelynn Haught & Lieutenant Neomi Sabine

Mission: Vivere aut non vivere ...
Location: Sickbay
Timeline: 1 hour after Borg ship destroyed

Fleet Captain Evelynn Haught stood outside the sickbay doors. She didn't know what she would expect when she entered, would there be bodies on the floor, would there be screaming, or would there be sleeping people recovering from a certain hell that had almost consumed them that was commonly known as the BORG.

Taking a deep breath and closing her eyes Evelynn stepped forward to activate the door sensors. There was no screaming that she could hear, which was a good sign. Taking another deep breath she opened her eyes slowly. No bodies on the floor. Another good sign. Walking through the doors the captain stood just outside of the sensors so that the doors could close.

Looking around Evelynn saw each bio-bed occupied. She saw her Chief Medical Officer and Chief Counselor conversing over in the corner and walked over to them.

Addison was pointing to the two patients on the biobeds closest to them. "These two were in pretty severe distress when they arrived. When they regain consciousness, I think you're going to want to start with them."

She noticed the Captain approaching. "Captain Haught. What can I do for you?"

"I was just stopping by to see how everyone was doing and to get an update on the Clip's crew." Evelynn said as she got a little closer to the two women.

Neomi was the first to speak up. " On the psychological side of things captain the Clip's crew seem to be suffering a moderate post traumatic stress disorder. I have appointments with a lot of them tomorrow once they are released from sickbay."

"Seems as though you and your staff are going to be having your hands full. Keep me updated throughout everything." said Evelynn.

"Yes ma'am." Neomi said then saw a patient waving their arm trying to get her attention. "If you ladies will excuse me I believe a patient is calling for me."

Addison turned to the Captain. "Everything we got was largely superficial, though I will say at least half of the Clip's crew are suffering from being malnourished. Whether intentional or unintentional, I can't say. The only casualty was Commander Kerr, but he saved them all..." her voice trailed off.

Evelynn knew what she was feeling. She too was feeling the same thing. "I'm sure you did the best that you could under the circumstances doctor but we shouldn't blame ourselves for the Commander's death."

Addison sighed. "No, of course not, Captain, but with your permission, I'd like to do an autopsy to figure out just what the hell happened."

The captain sighed heavily. "I'm afraid you won't get the chance Doctor. I've just reviewed Commander Kerr's will and testament and its stated that he doesn't want his body desecrated for religious reasons. I know that's not what you wanted to hear but what else can we do?" she said. She too, also wanted to find out what caused Commander Kerr's death.

"Then I suppose we'll never know what happened to him," Addison said flatly, disappointed.

"Is there a way to do an autopsy without actually doing an autopsy?" asked Evelynn.

"You mean, to do so without disturbing the body?" Addison asked with a raised eyebrow. "I don't see how, sir. The Commander's body went through an enormous trauma between the virus and the Borg nanoprobes and implants. I can certainly speculate what I think happened, but unless I were to actually do a thorough investigation, I couldn't say for certain."

"It was worth a shot. I have to get back to the bridge. Let me know if there is anything you need." Evelynn gave Addison a small warm smile and turned to leave.

Addison nodded. "Thank you, sir."
